With a fresh new year barely begun, you may peruse your outdoor living room and find it full of rusty furniture after years or even months of being pelted with rain and saltwater spray. Luckily, this does not mean that you must throw it all away and start over from scratch. There are plenty of trusty solutions to make your rusty furniture look brand new again.
Do It Yourself Rusty Furniture Fixes
When you have invested a lot into the outdoor furnishings in your backyard oasis, you may be motivated to take what is now rusty furniture and restore it yourself. It will require a bit of elbow grease and the right products.
Start by removing all the visible rust. A wire brush is your first line of defense, followed by a good scrub with 80-grit sandpaper to remove all last traces of rust and paint. In some cases, naval jelly or a commercial rust remover may be necessary. You do want to be thorough as any leftover spots can result in “flash rusting” or rust making an unwelcome future appearance.
After the rust is removed, sand the rusty furniture lightly with fine-grit sandpaper and then thoroughly clean the pieces to prepare for priming.
A commercial spray primer made specifically for metal pieces is the next step. Apply it in at least two or three thin, even layers.
After drying completely, apply spray paint in your choice of color. The final step is the application of a clear sealer for metal furniture that will keep the new paint job looking fresh and resistant to UV rays.
Or…Let Us Do the Hard Work
If going through all the steps to make your rusty furniture look new again sounds like a lot of hard work, it is. And that’s why Hauser’s Patio offers you a better option: allow us to refurbish and refinish your patio furniture to restore it to its former good looks.
We start by refinishing your rusty furniture. In addition to rust, the frames of your outdoor furnishings may be showing their age with peeling and flaking paint. This type of damage requires extensive preparation before your pieces can be repainted. We have commercial sandblasters and cleaners necessary to remove all the rust and old paint and take the frames down to the bare metal. Our professional restoring team then cleans each outdoor furnishing and applies a powder coat primer.
Finally, we apply an OEM finish in your choice of gorgeous color and then top it off with a spray of clear protectant. Our proprietary protectant works on most types of outdoor furnishing and exquisitely prevents damage from UV rays, smog, dirt, rain and sea spray.
